Happy Birthday Hungary!
St. Stephen's Day is celebrated in Hungary on August 20th each year. It is also known as Foundation Day and Constitution Day. This is the official state holiday of Hungary.
A tradition of blessing “new” bread happens on this day as well. Besides commemorations organized by political parties, countless programs await both locals and tourists all the day round.
Programmes start in the morning, but the most spectacular part of the day are the fireworks throughout the whole country. Please don’t forget that this year 20th August is Tuesday, which means that Monday and Tuesday are free – most shops and markets are closed, however, the majority of cades and restaurants are open. Public transportation services operate according to their holiday schedule.
